Small strides
Quick note about two odd recent events: I sold a piece of art and I’m going to have three more poems published!
First the art: It’s a kick I sold something, very unexpectedly, especially because it was what you see below: one of the more absurd things I have made. It was a framed print of a collage of Dust Jacket photos posted about in depth here (or click image)
I contributed it last minute to Brian Brooks’ first gallery show of paintings @ The Hive Gallery entitled: “Now That Looks Like Fun.” Brooks runs Smokey’s Tangle community gallery in Oakland, with his girlfriend Emily. He’s a great artist and has made many amazing artworks, but stepped away from actual painting for nearly two decades. This show was a return to form for him. He was asking for small contributions (8×10) of art that contained A Claw, a Woof or a Feather. I thought about including some of the recent cat images or the owl boy photo manipulation, but went with the collage, as the author Mary Summer Rain is holding a pooch. Anywhoo, I brought it down the day of the show more for fun than anything and put a nominal price on it for a laugh, but by the end of the show had a check for my effort. How strange.
As for poetry publication: there will be three, read ’em three poems of mine in the Seventh issue of Corvus Magazine launching May 1st. Corvus was kind enough to publish “birds in the ribs” last year in their issue Five. What stellar taste they have! Har.
I am very pleased about this, if only I could find more outlets as refined as Corvus for my ramblings. But seriously, a little encouragement goes a long way for me as I’m horrid at the business aspect of writing. So thanks Corvus & the obviously visually impaired Art patron! Onward!
