Jars

I’ve been working on an art project filling spice jars with sculptural figures suspended in liquid and light. I’ve made about 6 of them, they’ve evolved from a nest of words in the first one, through the newer jars full of glowing liquid and translucent designs. One of the challenges of this project had been how to make them glow. Without revealing too much,  I realized what was needed was beyond my feeble mastery of actual craftsmanship, so I enlisted the help and power tools of virtuoso artist Steven Yazzie . He crafted some amazing bases for the jars and worked with me on making the jars glow. The bases are beautiful, elegant objects. I am in awe of his fluency in so many realms of art. He even took some excellent photos of one of the jars.  When I got home I took some further, not so great shots with my rad, super old 3.1 MP camera. Ha. I hope to have better documentation of the others soon. (a few better ones now after Steve came over & shot some more, thanks, Yazzie!)

Below are some photos of the jars. This project is growing and changing and I will make some more soon, but for now wanted to share photos of them with the new Yazzie bases. Let me know what you think.

The jar below is a little difficult to see in these photos but the effect is that floating,  handwritten words swirl and circle and cross over each other inside. This one has been hard to document.
