New Year

New paper sculpture in jar

Happy New Year. Not much to add other than 2011 was again pretty rocky but very productive creatively. My goal for 2012 is to write hell. I intent to go even more hermit and keep the momentum on the novel, hopefully stepping up the pace. I hope to find balance between the novel, the new job and school. I am cautiously optimistic. Below is the first poem of the new year, if it’s a barometer of writing to come I’m pleased. More soon.

New Year

Years are like fences
and fences are false

like trying to parcel a river,
yoking a torrent

years are like fences
and fences are false

scarring the earth
with barbed wire

bolstering an illusion
